I had the honor to address a Letter to you on the 23rd Nov. last in whit I solicited the Office of Chief Justice of Hong Kong - I now respectfully beg to enclose the Deshmonials & whit I referred to in that Letter.
These are from (now Lord) Romilly M.R. The Lord Justice Sir G. Turner the late Chan. Sir John Stuart and the V. C. Sir W. Page Wood and M. M. M. 20 and the then of Lancaster James 2C
In my Letter of application you will see that whilst at Hong Kong I was Legal adviser to the Chinese and Japanese Embassies at a salary amounting to £300 a year, offices which on my own proposal terminated. I received by Letters and verbally expressions of satisfaction at my advice and legal Assistance from Sir F. Bruce / C.B. I understand that these expressions were brought to the notice of Edward Cardwell Secretary of State for the Colonies
